Tuscany Hustlers Issue 3

Intro:

"If I dig into my memory, my first graffiti memories are in an underpass. I used to pass by there in my van on my way home from kindergarten. I admired the drawings of a local crew, which I later joined almost twenty years later. In that underpass, years later, I painted my first piece, photographed panels for this magazine, and spent so many wonderful moments in the carefree atmosphere of those afternoons spent spray-painting, partying, and laughing.

I always think graffiti has saved me; it's always been the only constant in this bitter life in this world corroded by evil; it's always there, no matter what. I'd define my love for writing as that instinctive movement we all share: stepping away from the wall while we're painting when we hear a train in the distance, and leaning out to find, perhaps new panels, or the same old one that's been around for a month, on the trains whizzing by overhead.

There's an anecdote I'd like to share related to the interview for this new release. More than 10 years ago now, in 2012, I went with my family to visit Madrid for a few days. As soon as I got off the plane, on the bus ride to the city center, I was (then and now) with my face pressed against the window, looking for signs left by someone who had passed by before me. I was surprised to see some of the same flops and tags from a writer I'd seen in my neighborhood, and which had helped me get into the world of graffiti. As a reckless kid, I was super excited to see Tuscan stuff abroad, and while walking around Madrid, I wondered what it would be like to paint outside the confines of your own city, without think that then One day I would have done it too. Those were the years when almost nothing was found on social media; graffiti was mostly still just out there. On the streets, on trains, under bridges, above shutters, or on some fancier, graffiti was where it belonged.

Coincidentally, after years, I found myself interviewing with the TH team that very writer, and since he will have inspired other people besides I am happy to share this testimony with you.
